Vesugen is a synthetic tripeptide bioregulator consisting of the sequence Lys-Glu-Asp (KED), developed by the Khavinson group at the St. Petersburg Institute of Bioregulation and Gerontology in Russia. Belonging to the same "Khavinson cytomedin" class as Epithalon (AEDG, pineal), Pinealon (EDR, CNS), and Chonluten (EDG, bronchial), Vesugen is the tripeptide identified by Khavinson and colleagues as the vascular endothelium-derived peptide bioregulator. The compound shares its KED N-terminal motif with the related tetrapeptides Livagen (KEDA, liver), Pancreagen (KEDW, pancreatic), and Prostamax (KEDP, prostate), making it a useful comparator in Khavinson SAR research. Vesugen is proposed to function through tissue-specific gene expression modulation in endothelial cell populations and has been investigated in Russian academic literature (Bulletin of Experimental Biology and Medicine; Khavinson and colleagues) for endothelial cell gene expression, angiogenesis pathway markers, and age-associated vascular cell biology endpoints in preclinical research models. Like other Khavinson short-peptide bioregulators, Vesugen is studied primarily as a research tool for tissue-specific peptide pharmacology rather than as a defined receptor agonist.
• Endothelial cell biology research — studied for short-peptide bioregulator effects on vascular endothelial cell populations
• Angiogenesis pathway research — investigated for VEGF, integrin, and other angiogenic gene expression endpoints in cell culture research
• Gene expression modulation — explored for tissue-specific gene expression in endothelial cell research models
• Khavinson KED-family SAR research — examined alongside Livagen (KEDA), Pancreagen (KEDW), and Prostamax (KEDP) for comparative C-terminal substitution studies
• Age-associated cellular research — researched for endothelial cell biology endpoints in aged tissue research models
• Endothelial cell gene expression panels and tissue-selective signaling
• Angiogenesis markers (VEGF, integrins, endothelial tube formation) in cell culture research
• Comparative pharmacology versus KED-family tetrapeptides (Livagen, Pancreagen, Prostamax)
• Tripeptide stability and structure-activity relationships in vascular cell research
• Aged-tissue versus young-tissue model responses in comparative endothelial cell research
