Thymogen is a synthetic dipeptide bioregulator consisting of the sequence Glu-Trp (EW), one of the earliest and most extensively characterized peptides in the Khavinson cytomedin / cytogen class. The compound was synthesized in the 1970s by Vladislav Khavinson and Vyacheslav Morozov at what became the St. Petersburg Institute of Bioregulation and Gerontology in Russia, originally isolated as the active dipeptide fragment from thymalin (a complex thymic extract). Thymogen functions through tissue-specific gene expression modulation in thymic and immune cell populations and has been investigated extensively in Russian academic literature (Bulletin of Experimental Biology and Medicine; Khavinson, Morozov, Kuznik, and colleagues) for thymic cell biology, T-lymphocyte differentiation pathways, immune gene expression, and age-associated immune cell research endpoints. Russia approved Thymogen as a nasal spray formulation for clinical immunomodulator use; it remains the most clinically-investigated short-peptide Khavinson bioregulator. Like other Khavinson short-peptide bioregulators, Thymogen is studied here primarily as a research tool for tissue-specific peptide pharmacology rather than as a defined receptor agonist.

Benefits (Research Focus)

Thymic cell biology research — studied for short-peptide bioregulator effects on thymocyte and T-lymphocyte cell populations

Lymphocyte differentiation pathways — investigated for T-cell maturation marker expression in cell culture research models

Gene expression modulation — explored for tissue-specific gene expression in thymic and immune cell research

Khavinson SAR research — examined alongside other Khavinson short-peptide bioregulators (including the closely related Vilon dipeptide) for structure-activity studies

Age-associated cellular research — researched for thymic cell biology endpoints in aged tissue research models

What Researchers Look At

• T-lymphocyte differentiation markers (CD3, CD4, CD8) in thymocyte cell research

• Gene expression panels in thymic cell research models

• Comparative pharmacology versus Vilon (KE dipeptide) and other Khavinson thymic peptides

• Dipeptide stability, pharmacokinetics, and peptidase resistance research

• Aged-tissue versus young-tissue model responses in comparative thymic cell research
