Noopept (GVS-111) is a synthetic dipeptide derivative of the cyclic prolyl-glycine pyroglutamate family, developed by the Russian Academy of Sciences as a structural analog of piracetam with significantly enhanced potency. The compound is rapidly hydrolyzed in vivo to cycloprolylglycine (cPG), an endogenous neuropeptide that is itself the proposed primary active metabolite. Noopept is studied in preclinical research as a nootropic and neuroprotective compound with reported effects on BDNF and NGF expression, NMDA receptor modulation, antioxidant activity, and cognitive performance in models of cerebral ischemia, traumatic brain injury, and Alzheimer's-like neurodegeneration.
