Thymalin is historically significant as the parent thymic preparation from which the Khavinson group later isolated and characterized active short peptide fractions — leading to the identification of Thymogen (Glu-Trp / EW dipeptide) and Vilon (Lys-Glu / KE dipeptide) as defined synthetic analogs of Thymalin's active components.
